Cabinet decisions: Revised estimates for NIT approved and others
The Union Cabinet yesterday approved to Revised Cost Estimates for establishment of permanent campuses of new National Institutes of Technology, NITs, at a total cost of 4371.90 crore rupees for the period 2021- 2022. NITs were established in the year 2009 and started functioning from academic year 2010-2011 in their temporary campus with very limited space and infrastructure. These NITs will be fully functional from their permanent campuses by 31st March, 2022.
The Cabinet also approved the extension of tenure of the Commission constituted to examine the classification of other backward class sub-castes in the Central List. In New Delhi yesterday, Union Minister Prakash Javadekar said that under Article 340 of the Constitution, it has been decided to extend the tenure of the Commission by six months to 31 July.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi reviewed the progress of several projects on 22 January. Through the Pragati platform based on information communication technology, the Prime Minister discussed the delayed projects costing over twenty-four thousand crore rupees in nine states. These include ongoing projects in Odisha, Telangana, Maharashtra, Karnataka, Bihar, Kerala and Uttar Pradesh.
